Wörthersee EXTREM 2026 – 62 km of winter hiking for the toughest of hikers

On the night of 10 to 11 January 2026 at midnight sharp, the starting signal for one of the toughest but also most fascinating winter hikes in Austria is given in Velden Kurpark: Wörthersee EXTREM.
62 kilometers, 1,800 vertical meters, four refreshment stops – and an unforgettable adventure around the wintry Wörthersee.

Magical start in the witching hour

The start is in the heart of Velden, surrounded by fire bowls, lights and hot tea. While the last New Year’s resolutions are sunk into the lake, the tension mounts: midnight, witching hour – and off we go. The route leads counter-clockwise along the Wörthersee circular hiking trail, through quiet forests, past snow-covered shores and with a view of the glittering winter scenery.

Strengthening & motivation at four refreshment stations

If you persevere kilometer after kilometer, you will be rewarded with warmth every now and then:

• Restaurant Karawankenblick: first rest after the descent from the Pyramidenkogel – with hot food and drinks.

• Klagenfurt (curling facility): second breakfast to recharge your batteries.

• Gasthaus Pisl in Krumpendorf and Thadäushof in Sekull: further stops to warm up, enjoy and take a deep breath.

All four stations are heated and offer hot food, drinks and a motivating atmosphere. Anyone who has to stop will be brought back safely from there.

The goal: honor, pride & pasta at Wrannissimo

Those who reach the Kurpark in Velden again after 62 kilometers and 1,800 meters of elevation gain can officially call themselves Wörthersee EXTREM finishers – rewarded with a medal, certificate, souvenir photo and a well-deserved finisher pasta in the Wrannissimo restaurant.

• January 10, 20:30: Inspiring multi-vision lecture “Hohe Tauern” in the seminar room at the Hotel Post (free for participants).

• January 11, from 2:00 p.m.: Official finale with pasta, souvenir photos and Casino Velden wheel of fortune at our Wrannissimo restaurant.
